Confidentiality statement and data protection/storage

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is an important element of therapy and supervision. It is very much my intention to not share information you provide, outside of our therapeutic or, supervision space. There are a few exceptions to this rule:

  1. If you or someone else is in serious danger - if possible, in the first instance, I will speak to you about my concerns and, together we may be able to decide on a plan of action. However, ultimately, if I am left with concern I will escalate.

  2. The Terrorism Act (2000) and Drug Trafficking Act (1994)

  3. I have my own supervision once a month for 1.5 hours to discuss my work, offer reflections and to help improve as a therapist/supervisor and provide the best possible support to those individuals and groups I work with.  This may involve discussing areas of work that have been explored.  In doing so though I am not sharing personal data. Any reference I may make to individuals or groups would be done anonymously.

  4. I keep notes of our sessions and these are password protected.  I will delete notes four years after we have concluded on our work together.

If you would like additional information that relates to my professional accreditation and how I respond to ethical issues in therapy and supervision please see:

 Data protection Complaints:

If you have a concern about how your personal data has been handled, for example, a request to access or delete your records that was not dealt with to your satisfaction, or a concern about whether your information was shared appropriately or stored securely, please raise it with me directly in the first instance.

Please note that this covers concerns about data handling only, not about the therapeutic relationship or professional conduct, which are dealt with separately.

To raise a data protection concern, in the first instance approach me via email in: jo.tomlinsont121jot@gmail.com. I will respond as soon as possible and certainly within 30 days. If you remain dissatisfied, you have the right to raise a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or by contacting them by phone on: 0303 123 1113.
